COMPETITION ANNOUNCEMENT!!

As many of you know, I am the Competition Coordinator for the ITEA, and am currently working on the 2010 ITEC Competitions. A number of people have asked about electronic submissions.

Yes, I am willing to accept electronic (emailed) submissions of the RECORDINGS and APPLICATIONS. However, we are not currently able to take payment electronically. As a number of people (especially overseas) are concerned with submitting on time, I will accept RECORDINGS AND APPLICATIONS received in either mail or email by no later than February 1, 2010. For those submitting electronically, I will accept payments (must be mailed) if received by February 7, 2010 to allow for any mail delays. If payment is not received by February 7, the electronic files will be erased and removed from consideration.

We are striving to make the competitions accessible to as many people around the world as possible. To those who have already mailed the packets, thanks, and my apologies for not posting this sooner. In the future we hope to be able to do the complete submission electronically.

Also, a number of competitors have contacted me regarding the awards. We are working to increase the awards, and I am holding off posting amounts until we have a better idea of the final tally. Best of luck to all who enter!!

First of all, credit must be given for a fantastic international conference we experienced in Cincinnati! Tim Northcut deserves praise for creating such a rich and vibrant program. Congratulations to those who performed and presented and a special thanks to the Conservatory of Music, the University of Cincinnati, and the staff who helped make the conference run smoothly.

The University of Arizona School of Music is truly honored and excited to be chosen as the host of the 2010 International Tuba Euphonium Conference. Kelly Thomas and Mark Nelson are excited with the opportunity to co-host the 2010 conference. This exciting event will be presented May 25-29th, 2010 at the School of Music, University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona, USA. Tucson, Arizona is one of the most exciting tourist towns in the United States. With its excellent live music scene, vibrant nightlife and fantastic variety of restaurants and shops, a good time is sure to be had by all!

ITEC 2010 will encompass six days of concerts, recitals, lectures, panel discussions, competitions, and masterclasses by the world's foremost classical and jazz tuba and euphonium artists. An extensive exhibit of instruments, mouthpieces, mutes, music, and recordings will also be available during the conference. These conferences have provided us an opportunity to showcase great artists and ensembles; present masterclasses, lectures, and panel discussions by well known teachers and performers; hold outstanding student competitions; and experience the latest trends from our music industry.

Planning is well underway for the 2010 ITEC and the first task is choosing performers and presenters. All performers are asked to submit a proposal online via the ITEA website. Proposal Form These proposals will be evaluated by the conference steering committee who will choose the performers and presenters. We will try to include as many of your proposals as possible.

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to come to Tucson and be awed by your heroes and inspired by your colleagues. The theme of the 2010 is an acronym of ITEC: Innovate, Translate, Educate, Create. From the world class featured artists and lecturers, to the wonderful exhibitors that will be present, to the charm of the southwest desert, we're sure you'll be entertained and inspired by the week! See you in 2010!!
