Kent EshelmanKent Eshelman is Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Baylor University and a member of the Baylor Brass Quintet. He holds degrees in Tuba Performance from Michigan State University (D.M.A.), the University of Wisconsin-Madison (M.M.), and the University of Michigan (B.M.), as well as a degree in Jazz Piano from the University of Michigan (B.F.A.). He has taught previously at Northern Arizona University, Western Kentucky University, and Grand Valley State University. Dr. Eshelman has won first place in such competitions as the Leonard Falcone International Competition (Artist and Student divisions), the Jeju (Korea) International Brass Competition, the Midland-Odessa National Young Artist Competition, and the Rich Matteson International Jazz Competition. He is the dedicatee of Anthony Plog's Nocturne for Tuba and Strings and performed its premiere in 2004. His publications include a tuba-euphonium quartet composition entitled a "Fortitudea" (Cimarron Music Press), a jazz tuba CD entitled Life Is Good (PKO Records), and a boogie-woogie and stride piano CD entitled In the Pocket. Dr. Eshelman performs regularly as a soloist at conferences and universities, and has performed as substitute or extra tubist with the Grand Rapids Symphony, the Toledo Symphony, and the Sotto Voce Quartet. |
