Charles Guy

Charles Guy is Associate Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at the Crane School of Music at the State University of New York at Potsdam. He performs with the Potsdam Brass Quintet, Orchestra of Northern New York, and the Northern Symphonic Winds and serves as substitute for the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. In the summers, he teaches tuba and euphonium at the Interlochen Arts Camp. Before joining the Crane faculty, Charles taught at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music and performed with the Lawrence Brass, Oshkosh and Green Bay Symphony Orchestras. He has held positions at several colleges throughout Michigan including Central Michigan University, Grand Valley State University and the University of Michigan-Flint. His orchestral experience includes performances with the Rochester Philharmonic, Michigan Opera Theatre, and Midland Symphony Orchestras. He earned both the Masters of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Music Performance degree from the University of Akron. Active as a soloist and clinician Charles has performed at the 2003 and 2005 Northeast Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conference, 2004 United States Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Conference and several New York state music conferences. In 1999 he won the Leonard Falcone Festival artist division solo tuba competition and has since served as an adjudicator. He has published articles and reviews in the International Tuba and Euphonium Association Journal and has been recorded on the Mark and Bernel Labels.
