Matthew Murchison

Matthew Murchison is widely considered to be one of the world’s euphonium and tuba players. He currently holds the position of principal solo euphonium with the River City Brass Band in Pittsburgh, PA. Matthew also performs on euphonium and tuba as a member of the River Bottom Quartet and the River City 6. He has been pleased to be able to perform with groups such as the Pittsburgh Symphony, Brass Band of Battle Creek, and the Dallas Wind Symphony. While in high school, Matthew performed at an elderly care facility and during his performance of “Bride of the Waves,” was asked by a mean old lady to “STOP THAT!!”

Matthew has most recently been a guest artist/clinician at the International Tuba/Euphonium Conference, US Army Band Tuba/Euphonium Conference, the Northeast Regional International Women’s Brass Conference (before his gender alteration procedure) as well as numerous schools across the country (and is pleased to announce that he was never asked to “STOP THAT!!”). Matthew’s original compositions for euphonium include Drunken Pirate Tale, Blue Green Day, Six Character Pieces, and Moonfall, which was premiered with the United States Army Band. Matthew released his first solo CD entitled “Everyone But Me” in 2003 on the Mulholland Records and Music label. He holds degrees from the University of North Texas (B.M.) and Carnegie Mellon University (M.M.).

Matthew Murchison is a Yamaha Performing Artist.
