2010 ITEA COMPETITONS

ITEA will be hosting competitions at ITEC 2010. The following competitions will be held:

Artist Division Solo Euphonium
Artist Division Solo Tuba
Arnold Jacobs Mock Orchestral Tuba
Tuba-Euphonium Quartet
Mock Band-Euphonium
Mock Band-Tuba

In addition, the following All-Star tuba-euphonium ensembles will be featured: High School, Collegiate, Collegiate Jazz, and Low Blowers (adult amateur).


RULES AND REGULATIONS

ELIGIBILITY: The International Tuba and Euphonium Conference Competitions are open to contestants of every race, gender and nationality. Each contestant must be a member of ITEA at the time of the live rounds (semi-final and final rounds) of the competition. Finalists and semi-finalists must be registered and present at the ITEC 2010 to be held May 25-29, 2010 in Tucson, Arizona.

AGE REQUIREMENTS: Contestants for the Young Artist Division Solo Competitions must have been born on or after June 1, 1991. You cannot have reached your nineteenth birthday during the conference. A copy of a birth certificate, passport or other definitive identification must be submitted with every entry application for the Young Artist Division Solo Competitions-tuba and euphonium. There is no age limit or requirement for the Artist Division Solo Competitions or for any of the other competitions

APPLICATION AND FEES: Each contestant must submit to the competitions coordinator an application form and an entrance fee of $40.00 (US) for the individual competitions. The entrance fee for the Euphonium-Tuba Quartet Competition is $80.00 (US) for the group. Contestants who wish to enter more than one competition must submit a separate application, fee and audition tape for each competition. If any competition does not receive enough entries to be a viable competition, the competition will be cancelled and all fees will be returned. Please note that Low Blowers do not pay the competition fee.

PRELIMINARY AUDITION RECORDINGS: All of the competitions require a recorded preliminary audition. These recordings can be cassette tapes or compact discs only. All preliminary round recordings must include piano accompaniment if applicable. Recordings should include only required music with no spoken dialogue. Specific details concerning repertoire are provided under each competition category. Do not include any identification marks on the disc or tape cassette nor on the disc or cassette box. Recordings will be numbered and presented anonymously to the preliminary adjudication committee. Recordings will not be returned to contestants. Send preliminary recordings directly to the competitions coordinator at the address listed below

DEADLINES: Applications and preliminary recordings for all competitions must be received by the competitions coordinator no later than February 1, 2010. Contestants from outside the United States should send applications, recordings and fees by airmail or similar air express services in order to ensure prompt delivery. Contestants chosen to perform as semi-finalists or finalists in live rounds will be notified approximately March 1, 2010. All contestants who appear at live rounds (semi-final and final rounds) in Tucson, Arizona during ITEC 2010 will receive a reduced conference registration fee.

ITEC 2010 ALL-STAR ENSEMBLES

High School students completing grades 8-12 during the 2009-10 academic year and full-time undergraduate and graduate university students are invited to submit an audition recording for selection to the ITEC 2010 High School, College All-Star Tuba-Euphonium Ensembles and Collegiate All-Star Jazz Tuba/Euphonium Big Band. Selected participants will receive music in advance of the conference and must be prepared to participate in rehearsals and a performance during the week of May 25-29, 2010 in Tucson, Arizona.
Recordings must be received by Tim Olt no later than March 1, 2010. Auditionees will be notified approximately April 15, 2010.
