Abe Torchinsky (1920–2009) served as principal tubist under Toscanini in the NBC Symphony (1946–49) and then under Ormandy with the Philadelphia Orchestra (1949–72), the latter of which marked his membership in one of the most respected orchestral brass sections to date, winning two Grammy Awards in 1967 and 1969. Mr. “T” was a pioneer for the tuba-euphonium community, and he leaves behind one of the most impressive legacy’s to date.
