The Executive Committee of the International Tuba-Euphonium Association proposes the following amendments to the Constitution of the International Tuba-Euphonium Association, which would replace the position of Treasurer with that of Executive Director.

Rationale:
In response to growing scope and responsibilities of the International Tuba-Euphonium Association, the Executive Committee of the International Tuba-Euphonium Association proposes an amendment to the Association’s Constitution replacing the position of Treasurer with that of Executive Director. The Executive Director will report directly to the Executive Committee and will provide support for all aspects of the Association, thus assuring ongoing continuity and consistent efforts toward reaching organizational goals.

Executive Director Job Description:

The Executive Director shall manage all financial and membership records, oversee management of Tuba-Euphonium Press, implement organizational strategies to achieve organizational goals, coordinate Journal advertising, and other duties as appropriate and assigned to the position.

The Executive Director is expected to be inspiringly energetic, show sustained and visible commitment to ITEA and its mission, and excite others around that mission and its supporting goals and strategies. He/she must see both service to membership and financial soundness as an essential parts of organizational philosophy.

The Director must actively and easily build rapport and trust with others, use multiple approaches to engage members in the many aspects and activities of the organization, and develop and maintain relationships with members, peers, industry leaders, and funding sources.

Proposed Amendments:

1. Replace all appearances of the term “treasurer” with “Executive Director.”

2. Reword Article VII Section 6 (description of treasurer position):
Article VII, Section 6.

Treasurer: Shall administer the financial activities of the Association; deal with matters that relate to the Internal Revenue Service; produce quarterly financial reports; construct budgets; maintain all membership records; work with the Publications Coordinator to produce an annual membership roster; maintain correspondence relative to dues and memberships; supervise, tally, and record results of general elections; and such other duties appropriate and assigned to the position.

Change to:
Executive Director: Is appointed by, works with, and reports to the Executive Committee. The Executive Director shall manage all financial and membership records, oversee management of Tuba-Euphonium Press, implement organizational strategies to achieve organizational goals, coordinate Journal advertising, and other duties as appropriate and assigned to the position.

3. Eliminate Article VII, Section 8 (publications coordinator description):
Section 8.

Publications Coordinator: Shall supervise the production of the ITEA Journal and any special publications released by the Association; and shall appoint Editorial Associates to assist in specialized areas.

4. Combine Article VI, Section 2 and Section 6 since they are essentially the same and reword:

Article VI, Section 2.
The appointed officers of the Association shall be treasurer, publications coordinator and conference coordinator. These officers shall hold office for two years with the possibility of succession.

Article VI, Section 6.
A treasurer, a publications coordinator, a conference coordinator and various other appointed officer positions as deemed appropriate will be made by the president with the approval of the Executive Committee. They shall serve concurrently with the president.

Change to:
The appointed officers of the Association shall be the Executive Director and other coordinators as deemed necessary by the Executive Committee. These officers shall be appointed by the Executive Committee. The Executive Director shall be initially appointed for a three-year term with open-ended possibility for succession after that time. Other appointed officers shall hold office for two years with the possibility of succession.
